The Disney Channel certainly has a knack for making shows that appeals to tweens and beyond. With the success of such TV shows as Hannah Montana and the ever-popular movie High School Musical, Disney is now bringing a new made-for-TV movie to the screen. Camp Rock is a new original movie made by Disney, and will make its television premier on June 20, 2008. It stars the extremely popular boy-band, The Jonas Brothers, and it is sure to be just as popular as the High School Musical movies.
A Cinderella Storyline
The storyline behind this new original movie follows a teenage girl named Mitchie Torres, played by Demi Lovato. She has limited resources, but dreams of attending one of the most popular and prestigious rock camps. Her solution to attend the camp is to work as one of the cooks in the camp kitchen. It is a little bit of a Cinderella story, as a young pop star at Camp Rock overhears her singing and sets out to find the girl behind the magical voice.
More About Mitchie
At the beginning of the movie, we see that Mitchie is talented and she really wants to find a means to get to Camp Rock. Her mother goes there to work in the kitchen, so Mitchie follows. Mitchie cannot shun her work to attend most camp activities and only her best friend, Caitlyn (played by Alyson Stoner), knows that she is leading a double life while at camp.
Demi Lovato is the actress that plays Mitchie, the main female character of the movie. She is dreaming of attending Camp Rock, but she knows to do that, she has to work hard. However, others see her as a worker, and not a fellow camp member, so she is banned from all the camp activities. However, she is in the right place at the right time and is "discovered" by Shane (played by Joe Jonas). It is very hard for Mitchie to step out of her shell so to speak and into the spotlight; however when she does, she shines to the surprise of many.
Who Do The Jo-Bros Play?
Joe Jonas, one of the Jonas Brothers, plays Shane Gray, who sets out to find out who Mitchie is when she sings. In the movie, he plays the lead singing of the fictional band, Connect Three, along with his real brothers, Kevin Jonas, who plays Jason, and Nick Jonas, who plays Nate. Joe’s character Shane initially does not like teaching at the camp, but when he hears Mitchie, he is reminded how he first got his start and his attitude towards camp completely changes. He eventually falls in love with Mitchie and they have a fairy-tale relationship.
Camp Rock is a much-anticipated summer Disney original movie. Kids of all ages will certainly tune in to see this light-hearted movie and to get a glimpse of the popular Jonas Brothers. Also catch a stunning performance by Alyson Stoner, as she has grown up with the Disney Channel, and is on to new and bigger roles as time goes on.
